Renew
Fresh from the kiln, this series is called Renew.
The dictionary definition of renew pretty much covers the different facets that underpin the inspiration for this collection.
1: to make like new : restore to freshness, vigor, or perfection : ‘as we renew our strength in sleep’
2: to make new spiritually : REGENERATE
3a: to restore to existence : REVIVE
b: to make extensive changes in : REBUILD
4: to do again : REPEAT
5: to begin again : RESUME
6: REPLACE, REPLENISH: ‘renew water in a tank’
Based on some simple bowl forms, the honed grey clay is wreathed with a gentle flow of blue and grey stains. They are thrown and trimed to a thin edge, which results in a lovely sculptural edge to the bowls when it hits the heat of the kiln. A simple white glaze on the inside reveals shadows of the embedded stain below the surface.
In this firing there were also some watercolour teabowls that have been renewed with a new foot shape to the base.
Simple calm forms to regenerate, revive and replenish.
