Ceramics

Our ceramics are dishwasher safe (on a low heat setting), but precious handmade ceramics are best handwashed. Metallic accents may also loose their so if those details are on your cups it may be best to handwash them. Late crazing of glazes can occur through thermal shock and high temperature dishwasher cycles. DO  allow pottery to heat up gradually i.e. warm up teapots prior to use, warm pieces to room temperature after removing from refrigerator, don’t place cold wares in hot water.

Hairline cracks in the glaze inside a food/beverage vessel that develop over time (many older pottery surfaces exhibits this, it can happen months/years later) can harbour bacteria if not cleaned properly after each use. Traditional Japanese teacups with crazing patterns on the inside of the cups are used for green teas and herbal teas, the patterning that develops over time is called KANNYU (貫入) and is a valued part of the Wabi Sabi tradition as it is stained with use and exhibits a unique character with no two kannyu patterns the same. However, with the Western food safety traditions in mind, If your teacup develops crazed lines on the inside over time - use for herbal teas or tea without milk in the Japanese tradition, and clean carefully after each use.

DO  allow hot pottery to cool down slowly i.e. don’t place hot wares in cold water.
DO NOT  use domestic appliances if the piece is precious.  Continual expansion and contraction of the piece will weaken the pottery over time and may cause cracking.

DO NOT MICROWAVE the vessels. ESPECIALLY Black clay or partially glazed vessels. This thermal shock can cause dramatic cracks, and burns from any hot liquids inside, and they can also get very hot on the surface.

KEEP CUP LIDS - each vessel being hand thrown has its own personality when it comes to wearing its ‘lid’ please ensure lid is securely fixed prior to drinking from it. Always test the lid before first use to ensure that you have it correctly fixed, and to test that cups personal fit and quirks. The lids are not made by us - refer to the KSENDELO lid information for care instructions. (We generally prefer to use the lid for carrying coffee from place to place then removing the lid for drinking from)

Jewellery

The bone, wood and ceramic items have been polished with a natural wax. To maintain the shine, buff gently with a soft microfibre cloth. By nature these items are very delicate - handle with care, and remove prior to swimming/showering.

Tealights

Do not leave a burning candle unattended. Do not touch the surround while candle is lit, or immediately after being extinguished, as it can get very hot.
